Before he was bitten, he was not wearing shoes
Chronology
The residents of a run-down French apartment building fight an army of deadly, rapidly reproducing spiders. The visually striking buildings in which the action takes place were not created for the film; they are Picasso’s arenas in Noisy-le-Grand, near Paris, designed by architect Manuel Núñez Yanowsky in the 1980s. When TN feels the effects of a spider bite, he is seen wearing one of the new shoes. He would not put on the right shoe after being attacked/poisoned..

Vermines (aka Infested) is a fun creature feature with a really cool vibe. It feels good early on with the music and tone. It does a good job of creating different characters and is generally well done from a technical perspective. As for the spiders, that’s great and the best aspect of the film.
They find very creative ways to present the creatures
This is the kind of horror fun I wish they would make more of, instead of the thousands of boring, cheesy movies Hollywood pumps out. For me, there are a few things that keep this from being rewatchable. There are a few non-spider scenes that go on for far too long. I like that they took the time to develop the characters, but there are many parts where cutting something out would have made zero difference to the story or the film.
There are a few questionable parts, but nothing too bad
It’s like the director was afraid to leave a single frame on the cutting room floor. And a few scenes had multiple people screaming at the same time, which made it difficult to watch when you have to read constant double lines of subtitles. Even with these flaws, I still enjoyed this as a one-time watch. The levels are better than another recent spider movie called Sting.
Vermines is basically the opposite
That one has the awkward ~35 seconds of spider screen time and is very boring. (1 viewing, 04/29/2024)
