Chronology
The story of American photographer Lee Miller, a model who became a famous war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II. Based on “The Life of Lee Miller,” the only authorized biography of Lee Miller’s life, written by her own son, Anthony Penrose, and published in 1985. Miller was refused entry to Hitler’s apartment because it was “for officers only.” War correspondents were given the rank of captain, so technically the U.S.
In The 7PM Project: Episode October 21, 2024 (2024)
Lee Miller: [Hands a knife to the girl he just saved from rape] Next time, cut it.. The end credits include some “what” happened explanations; and some of Lee’s original photos, often alongside ones that were recreated for the film. I was really excited to see Kate Winslet in this passion project and of course she always delivers a great performance, and the directing is definitely well done and provides a unique take on WWII.
It seems like his role was cut for a reason, as it was a bad choice and there were so many really good British actors who could have captured their supposed chemistry
However, the lack of focus on Lee Miller’s early days as a model and her artistic entourage, including Picasa and the elites, with a brief introduction to the wasted Alexander Scars as a British woman who has no chemistry or anything special to add, is a shame. Other than that the first half felt weak and thankfully Adam Sandberg brought some depth to the Nazi scenes, especially the Holocaust, although the bathroom scene was over the top but without understanding the fashion and the elite art crowd Lee had previously encountered it somehow makes no sense and feels out of place. Lee used to be an IT model girl who was super cool and here she comes across as an old boring fashion photographer without much charm and evolution from IT girl to WWII photographer with the same shine.
Go in with low expectations and you’ll like the movie
The worst part of the movie was the interview scenes between the son and the mother, the ending of which was awful and tried to create synergy between Lee and her past, which could have easily been done better because it felt rushed and out of place. I will skip the spoiler because the ending is just weird but maybe that was the point of leaving a few lines of paragraph to explain the denouement. Either way it is a really great movie and it is always nice to see Kate Winslet shine as an actress, even if the script is lacking it does not take away from the great direction. 7 stars.
